Ill Nino was founded in 1999 in New Jersey, USA. At first the name was El Nino but later the band was renamed to Ill Nino. It was formed by drummer Dave Chavarri (M.O.D., ProPain, Merauder, Soulfly) and bassist Cristian Machado. Jorge Rosado was on vocals but just in early days (you can hear his voice only on early demos). He left soon and was replaced by Cristian and Lazaro Pina took bassist place. Other members were Marc Rizzo (acoustic and lead guitar), Jardel Paisante (guitars) and Roger Vasques (percussion). Omar Clavijo was traditional "seventh" member and he did programing etc.
After forming the band started to work hard. It became the star of the club scene in New York and then played all around the USA as guests with more famous bands. It recorded several demos and sent this material to different recording companies. But with no success. Ill Nino realized that its music didn't say what the members felt. But then they found their original music style using Latin rythms in their songs. Their music became more intensive and strong. they made another demo and this record came to Roadrunners Records. Producers were enthusiastic. In 2000 Ill Nino signed to Roadrunners. Earlier that year the band had released seven songs record called Ill Nino EP via C.I.A. Recordings.
After signing to Roadrunners Ill Nino started to work on their first full-lenght album. In late summer 2000 began the recording in studio. One year later album called Revolution, Revolución was in stores. This album was very successful and it meant great start for the band. But Ill Nino didn't stop and gave support to the new record with three videos - God Save Us, What Comes Around and Unreal.
During shooting the videos and really intensive concerting (among others the band appeared on famous Ozzfest) worked Ill Nino on the second album. It was recorded in very short time and was released in 2003 under the name Confession. Over 500 000 copies were sold - most in the band history ever. The music style looked like Revolution, Revolución's one but it was much elaborate. Two singles were made. The first one - How Can I Live - was really hit. The second one called This Time’s For Real.
But year 2003 could be called the year of changes for Ill Nino, too. Marc Rizzo (guitarist) left the band and Ahrue Luster, who had been cooperating with the group some time before, became a regular member. And that wasn't all. Roger Vasques (percussionist) was replaced by Danny Couto, who had been Ill Nino's friend, too. These two new members already participated in recording Confession.
In 2004 Ill Nino produced a DVD Live From The Eye Of The Storm. It was shot during Ill Nino and Godsmack tour. It consisted of Pensylvania concert record and several bonuses like interviews of photogallery.
In 2005 was released the third album under the name One Nation Underground. On this piece the music style changed a little. Much more Latin elements appeared, the songs were more emotional at all and many hit came up. Two videos were made, What You Deserve with great refrain and theme, and This Is War.
One year later a compilation The Best of Ill Nino was produced by Roadrunners. This record contained of 13 songs which had appeared on first three albums. But it seemed that the band didn't agree with this act because i the same year parted ways with Roadrunners Records and signed to Cement Shoes Records. And another change was made, too. Guitarist Jardel Paisante left the band and on his place got Diego Verduzco, Ill Nino friend, originally from the band Odum.
After that the band released a five songs limited edition EP, The Undercover Sessions.Everything seemed to be OK. The band made six week tour to support the new record. And as soon as they returned back new album writing started. Recording in the studio.began in summer of 2006 and was finished in August 2007. But then the troubles began. The release date of Enigma was pushed back many times. The new album was finally released on 11th March 2008. Ill Nino gave support to Enigma per USA and Europian Guerrilla Carnival Tour and a video of The Alibi of Tyrants.
Now the band is preparing to make a Latin America tour and the fans are looking forward to two new videos, Me Gusta la Soledad and Pieces of the Sun.
